One of the many mottoes Colonel John Hannibal Smith throws around whilst hatching his brilliant plans, dispensing them like his insightful wisdom increases the chances of success. A motto director Joe Carnahan has taken to heart in making 'The A-Team'. A smart move, as complete and uncompromising exaggeration appears to be exactly what the format asked for. Especially since the translation of TV shows to the big screen has proved to be no easy task. Just look at 'Miami Vice', which pretty much bombed despite the presence of Michael Mann, the director/producer who created the original series. Or the near criminal trashing ĂÂźberhobbyist MacGuyver recently received by the hands of questionable farce 'MacGruber'. In a world so significantly different from the mid-eighties, the severely underpaid and hopelessly dated missions of the four fugitives could have very much been out of place as well. The reincarnation by the hands of Carnahan however, avoids many of the pitfalls that the outdated format has to offer. For one, the director has brought the well known premise of the series to the present. Vietnam has been replaced by Iraq and the bad attitude of Bosco Baracus is not the only thing that makes the foursome dangerous the happy-go-lucky stance of a team that rarely asked for enemy casualties has been replaced by an attitude that better suits a group of elite soldiers. What is especially striking is how well the cast handle their roles, and how much fun they have doing so. Understandable, since the characters in Carnahan's installment have been blown up as well. Hannibal in the hands of Liam Neeson, although not as charismatic as George Peppard, is equally complacently on the jazz whenever a dangerous situation can be even remotely relished. Templeton "Faceman" Peck in the version of Bradley Cooper enjoys the swindling of both women and all sorts of tools even more than his predecessor Dirk Benedict and the script provides Quinton "Rampage" Jackson with a philosophical depth to his distinctive character - and evolution thereof - in the BA version. The acting skills of the professional wrestler are up for debate, but then again you never questioned Mr. T. either. Even though he played the bejeweled, Mohawk sporting powerhouse with an acute fear of flying as an overly enthusiastic pupil in a school musical, always staring at the next person to speak his lines way long before they had the floor. The biggest fun, however, comes from Howling Mad Murdock in the interpretation of 'District 9'-phenomenon Sharlto Copley, who occupies the crazy pilot with both a zest for life and an absolute fearlessness of death ââŹâ cue the suicidal midair antics. His inimitable flying skills, Murdockian features sock puppets and his interaction with BA for example and especially his imitation of Mel Gibson in 'Braveheart' - including stick horse - make him the movies' main asset. The script then. The plot, pretty much a side issue, continuously serves up action excesses ââŹâ equally incredible and entertaining ââŹâ but yields more than a whipped episode of the series stretched to a playing time of two hours. You could say the plot is kind of a cross section of the five years the series ran, if you omit the recurring missions the mercenaries entered into. There is plenty of borrowing from existing story lines, more or less adapted to the new universe of Carnahan. The film opens with a spectacular introduction of the four veterans some years ago - only Hannibal and Face are trusted comrades, BA and Murdock have still to cross their paths - setting up the Alpha team that started it all. Included of course, is a supporting role for the black GMC Van, which can impossibly be disregarded as the fifth member. Cut to eight years and eighty successful missions later, to the operation that sees the team become the proverbial scapegoat the series theme credits were based on ââŹâ something to do with a crime they didn't commit. The bank robbery in Hanoi has been replaced by the hijacking of a truckload of counterfeit money in Baghdad, commanding General Morrison is still here. The CIA is present as well, in a possible set-up for a sequel in which Hannibal's outfit will be contracted by the organization in a reference to Stockwell Robert Vaughn of the fifth season of the series. The plot is driven by the aftermath of the robbery, offering supporting roles for Captain Charisa Sosa the distractingly attractive Jessica Biel and CIA man Lynch Patrick Wilson, 'Watchmen', but it's all a mere hook for ridiculous set pieces and extravagant action to be towed on. Hannibal's crack commando unit must pull out all the stops in order to clear its name, in an adventure that at times offers absolute top entertainment. That is, if you're willing to believe that a parachute suspended tank as seen in the trailer, wherein the fearless foursome escape from an exploding plane, can be easily maneuvered in midair using the inboard cannon, simultaneously discarding enemy aircraft like it's a game of Duck Hunt. There are enough sequences that ask more than a lot of your ability to shut off your brain, but as said that exaggeration is exactly what this film needed. 'The A-Team' is simply a masterful popcorn spectacle par excellence, offering high-level action entertainment and jokes that are more often than not very decently set up. The cast has great fun working with the pleasantly unlikely adventures and the story is ââŹâ in good tradition - full of references to the 80's hit series it is based on. The plot falters a bit left and right and the credo overkill is underrated is at times perhaps taken a little too far, but that is merely an expected consequence of handing control over to the man behind 'Smokin' Aces'. Regardless, the oncoming release might well feature a well-deserved 'to be continued' by the time the end credits start 8, 2010Movie and TV Reboots and RemakesMovie and TV Reboots and RemakesTake a side-by-side look at some of Hollywood's biggest reboots and the galleryFAQ4Contribute to this pageSuggest an edit or add missing contentEdit pageMore to exploreRecently viewedYou have no recently viewed pages

Which meant that I couldn't feel like this reboot was letting me down, but I also was in no way ingratiated with the franchise. Seemed like the positives and negatives of going in blind like that sort of cancelled each other out, and that's pretty much the attitude I've got to the movie itself. There was cool stuff, there was some lame stuff, and all in all they levelled themselves out for a pretty average movie-watching experience. Super Reviewer Jun 26, 2016 Based on the TV series of the same name, The A-Team features the same characters as they become fugitives and try to prove their innocence. Neeson, Cooper, Copley and the rest of the cast were great, particularly Wilson who plays the villain ridiculously underrated actor. The action was great, albeit completely over the top most of the time especially 'flying a tank'...who even thought of that!?. However the plot is very forgettable and didn't keep me invested or hooked. The script was witty with some good one-liners which harks back to the television series. The final act of the film at the dockyard was abit silly, but hey...it's an over the top action film and it delivers. Super Reviewer Mar 11, 2016 Better than I expected after the show was silly and way over hyped, The casting choice was brilliant and they all acted their parts well, some very over the top action scenes but they were very fun, Funny humour, Maybe the story had too much going on at times and the effects will soon look dated but it's mindless fun that lifelong fans and newcomers to The A-Team should enjoy. Super Reviewer Jul 23, 2013 This television-series-adaption is nothing but action, explosions, bland storylines and cliched humor. It does possess a strikingly strong cast of heroes Neeson, Cooper, Rampage, Copley but it doesn't get the job done as the film is a excessive exaggeration of the TV show. Logo text The first trailer for The Expendables 4 sees franchise stalwarts Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham teaming up with a cast of series newcomers like 50 Cent and Megan Fox. In the latest entry of the long-running action franchise, the old timers and newbies charged with averting World War III by taking out âterrorists [who] have taken possession of nuclear missiles on a cargo ship off the coast,â explains Andy Garcia in the requisite expository voiceover. In between quick cuts of an armada of heavy machinery and firearms, the trailer includes Statham and Fox battling it out in their apartment and Stallone flipping an assailant over a bar. Returning to the franchise along with Stallone and Statham are Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture, joined by a new generation of Expendables including Fox, 50 Cent, Garcia, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio and Levy Tran. In a recent THR cover story, Stallone talked about Expendables 4, saying, âI heard it turned out pretty good. Jason Statham is 80 percent of it. Heâs happy with it.â The official synopsis for the film reads âThe Expendables are the worldâs last line of defense and the team that gets called when all other options are off the table. But new team members with new styles and tactics are going to give new bloodâ a whole new meaning.â It has been nearly a decade since the last Expendables film. The first three Expendables outings, released in 2010, 2012 and 2014, have collectively grossed an impressive $800 million at the global box office. Getty/Gregory Shamus Welp, the NBA Finals are finally set, and the Denver Nuggets and the Miami Heat will battle it out to decide who reigns supreme in the National Basketball Association landscape. While the sports world will focus on that series, we here at Complex continue to focus on recapping the season as a whole. Weâve already shared our POV on the best guards and centers of the season, as well as our weekly power rankings for the season and the playoffs. Now, we will shine a light on the teams that absolutely sucked during the 2022-23 NBA even the dregs of the league deserve some kind of coverage, right? 5. San Antonio Spurs Image via Getty/Kevin C. Cox Even though technically the San Antonio Spurs had the worst record in the Western Conference, theyâre this high or low, depending on your viewpoint on this list mainly because their 22-win futility won them the NBA Draft Lotteryâand will definitely select âonce in a generationâ wunderkind Victor Wembanyama with the number one pick. This was the fourth straight season the Spurs missed the playoffs, and at 22-60, is the worst season for legendary coach Gregg Popovich since his first season running the team in 1996. There were a few bright spots, of course. Keldon Johnson was the teamâs leading scorer with 22 points a game, a high mark in his four-year career, and third-year guard Devin Vassell excelled with a career-high in points and field goal shooting but thatâs about it. As a team, San Antonio was in the bottom 10 in points scored 113, field goals three-pointers and dead last in the plus-minus department -10, and defensive rating, gave up the most points in the season and had the worst point differential -832. That last stat included giving up the most points in a game under Coach Pop when the Spurs were mollywhopped by the Minnesota Timberwolves, 151-131. Add to that, they were tied for first or last, depending on your viewpoint with the worst road record in the league 8-33 and had the longest losing streak of the season with 16 straight. But, hey, they have the number one pick in this yearâs draft. So, small victories for the small market Spurs. 4. Portland Trail Blazers Image via Getty/Steve Dykes Portland winning 33 games this season was an improvement from only mustering 27 wins the previous one, but when you have a team led by Damien Lillard, a year like this one deserves to be mentioned on a list like this. Despite Dame Time putting up the best scoring season of his 11-year career which included an insane 71-point game, the Blazers were near the bottom in field goals made 27th in the league, rebounding 28th, plus-minus 26th. They were also a defensive liability ranking 27th in rating and 29th in opponent three-point percentage. In a nutshell, outside of injuries decimating the team, Portland simply didnât have enough talent to surround their loyal superstar with. Thatâs why this offseason is a pivotal one for the franchise. They own the third pick in this yearâs draft, and whispers about them considering offloading that pick for a star to pair with Lillard are loud AF. The Blazers can also say farewell to Dame, trade him for more draft capital like, say, to the Brooklyn Nets, and lean into their rebuilding with five-year guard Anfernee Simons who averaged a career-high in points on shooting, also a career-high as the new face of the team. 3. Charlotte Hornets Image via Getty/Stacy Revere After Charlotteâs 43-39 record last season, their first 40-win year since 2015, there was some promise for the Michael Jordan-owned team leading up to the 2022-23 campaign. Highlights of this season centered around the continued growth of LaMelo Ball, who averaged career highs in points and assists as well as becoming the second-youngest player to rack up 1,000 points, rebounds and assists in his three-year career behind LeBron James. Yet, Ball only played 36 games for the Hornets and was done for the season after suffering a fractured ankle. That pretty much sunk any hopes in the Queen City. Terry Rozier Kelly Oubre and the oft-injured Gordon Hayward tried to pick up the slack, but it didnât matter. The Hornets finished the season with a 27-55 record, the second worst in the Eastern Conference, was next to last in field goal and three-point 33 percentage and was the worst offensive team in the league with a rating of But, great failures bring great rewards, and with the Hornets in possession of the second overall pick in next monthâs NBA Draft, they could end up with a generational talentâeither Alabamaâs Brandon Miller or G-League star Scoot Hendersonâto pair with a returning LaMelo. 2. Houston Rockets Image via Getty/Carmen Mandato The Rockets winning three straight games at the end of the season ruined their chances of landing the number one overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Full stop. And this was a team that had a 13-game losing streak during the season. By showing such gusto so late in the season, they ended the regular season tied with the San Antonio Spurs for the worst record in the Western Conference at 22-60. Sure, they ranked fourth in rebounds and number one in offensive boardsâRockets fans can thank rookie Jabari Smith rebounds per game and second-year big man Alperen Sengun nine rebounds per game, a career-high for their effortsâbut they were either dead last or close to it in all other statistical categories as a team. Houston has the worst three-point percentage in the league ranked last in assists per game was 29th in defensive rating, 28th in points scored field goal shooting and plus-minus 25th in free throw percentage and was next to last in turnovers Now armed with the fourth pick in the NBA Draft, a new coach in defensive-minded Ime Udoka, promising production from Jalen Green points per game and Kevin Porter, Jr. points per game, and the constant rumors of a James Harden return to H-Town, that gusto this young team showed at the end of the season could potentially yield positive returns next season. 1. Detroit Pistons Image via Getty/Chris Schwegler Sigh. Youâd think having the worst record in the league would give you better odds of landing the first overall pick in the draft lottery. That wasnât the case for the Detroit Pistons who put up only 17 wins this year, had a 14 percent chance of winning the lottery, and ended up with the fifth pick. The first blow to the team was when Cade Cunningham injured his shin twelve games into the new season and was out for the year. Up to that point, the two-year point guard was improving from his rookie year, averaging points and six assists. But his loss affected the team, and they were putrid all year. Season lowlights included two count them, two 11-game losing streaks, the third worst in the league, ranking last in field goal percentage, next to last in field goals made, 28th in both offensive and defensive rating, 29th in points scored 25th in turnovers 27th in assists, and 29th in plus-minus. Such a poor showing on the court forced coach Dwane Casey to step down, and it doesnât look like anyone is clamoring for the position at the moment. But, whoever inherits this mess of a franchise can look forward to developing a returning Cunningham and two-guard Jaden Ivey, who finished his rookie year with a solid points on 41 percent shooting, as well as whoever they choose in next monthâs draft.

"Moonlighting" was one of them, and so was this creation of Frank Lupo and Stephen J. Cannell. Lupo later came to a parting of the ways with Cannell and inflicted "Werewolf" and "Something Is Out There" on the world. Blub.Like most of the people commenting on "The A-Team," I used to watch it as a kid well, a teenager really. It had likeable heroes, comedy, action, top music unlike most TV producers, Cannell billed Mike Post and Pete Carpenter in the main titles with the stars ... the lot. The plots weren't exactly loaded with endless twists, but that was part of the fun - who else looked forward to the week's DIY montage where the quartet built that week's weapons? As Hannibal pointed out in one of the novelisations, it's amazing how the bad guys always locked them up with precisely what they needed to escape. And contrary to popular belief, our heroes did get hurt from time to time the clip show episode "Curtain Call" used Murdock being shot as an excuse for his comrades to hold a remembrance of episodes past; in "The Battle Of Bel Air" the helicopter containing the A-Team crashed at the end of the climax, injuring everyone EXCEPT Baracus; occasionally episodes started with someone actually getting murdered the man in the exploding car in "Skins," one of the battling convicts in "Pros & Cons". The show didn't dwell on it, true, but it was remains Cannell's most successful show as an independent producer, and demonstrates how he's more adaptable than the more critically acceptable Steven Bochco this is not to put down Bochco, but can you imagine the man with the would-be violinist for a dad coming up with shows as wildly different as "The Greatest American Hero," "Top of the Hill" and "Wiseguy"?.
